Why did Paul include the belt in the armor of God? I mean, it doesn't protect you or anything.

It's true that today’s belts that go through belt loops and hold up our pants aren't a part of our armor. But, in biblical times, belts were more than fashion statements! They were used to wrap around the waist to keep a warriors robes from tripping him. Warriors in Paul’s days didn’t always wear pants. They wore long robes, even in battle. The belt kept the robe out of the way. The belts in Paul’s days also kept the sword close to the warrior.

A good comparison would be the gunbelt a policeman wears at work every day. It has a holster for a gun and is easily accessible. Policemen also have a pouch for extra bullets and a holder for a radio and flashlight.

In biblical times, they didn’t have guns just swords. And those swords had to be close for easy access!!!
