In Genesis it says “He created male and female he created them” but then it tells about Adam and Eve. So were we created at one or two times?

So go grab your Bible and read Genesis 1:27 (this is the verse you are asking about) and then also read the story of Adam and Eve which begins with Genesis 2:4 and goes to the end of chapter 4.

I can see why you asked this question, there is a lot of information and it is a little difficult to put together, isn’t it?

Here’s the deal … Genesis 1:27 is introducing the idea that humans (both male and female) are created in God’s image. God is telling us that we are the crown of His creation! And we are created to have a spiritual relationship with Him, a kind of relationship that no other created being (not dogs, elephants, monkeys, porpoises, or anything else, no matter how smart) can have with Him. That’s cool, and that’s what Genesis 1:27 is all about.

Then in Genesis chapters 2 and 3, the Bible starts telling about Adam and Eve and gives some details of their account (or story).

Finally, check out Genesis 5:1-3, which begins talking about Adam’s descendents.

Now that you have read everything about Adam and Eve, here is a fun fact about how all this information is made into a story and why –
• The word “Genesis” comes from the Greek word “geneseos” which means generation!
• Genesis includes the stories (accounts) of ten different generations – starting with Adam. This is important. While Genesis speaks of Adam’s story a couple of times, all of it together – not just the account of Adam and Eve, but of all the generations (Noah, Shem, Terah, Ishmael, Isaac, etc), show God’s love for mankind and His preparation of Israel as His chosen people!!

I know that it seems like there are different stories, but it really is just one grand story with different important parts. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions!

How long has God been around?

Yahoo! I love that question because people ask me that question all the time! I could easily give them the standard Biblical answer of, “God has always been here and He has no beginning and no end and He will always be here because He is eternal.” But, I usually get that deer-in-the-headlights look when I say that.

So, here’s my way of trying to explain it in a different way: Imagine being able to go back in time to the days of the pilgrims as they were colonizing this country and trying to explain to them how a helicopter works or how an iPod works. Remember, there’s no such thing as electricity, gas engines, batteries, etc. So, how do you explain how those things work to a society that has never seen stuff like that? You see, we’ve grown up with so much technology that we just accept what is there without really trying to understand how they work. But trying to explain something that we casually accept to someone who’s never experienced it would be very hard.

So now let’s apply that thinking to the concept of our Lord God being eternal. How do you explain what eternity is to people who are stuck in the passage of time? We kind of know what eternity is but we don’t fully understand it. So, what do we do? We do what every person alive does…we try to redefine the incomprehensible into terms we can understand. Basically, we try to simplify the problem! The big problem with that is that people tend to oversimplify things!

God’s eternal power is clearly seen in our world but our brains have a hard time wrapping around the concept of God having the power to create an entire universe. So, we try to explain it in terms we can see and understand. We try and make God like us, forgetting that He’s not like us…we are like Him! We were created in His image! The problem is that that doesn’t even come close to explaining the eternal God.

If you look at a Biblical explanation, the Bible simply says God “is.” Remember Moses? When he asked the Lord God what His name was, do you remember what God said? He said, “Tell them I AM.” (Exodus 3:14) Revelation 1:8 and 4:8 says that God is, God was and God is to come.

So, to answer your question in the simplest of terms, God has been here for all eternity and will be here for all eternity.

How can God be everywhere at once?

Great question,! Sometimes it’s so hard to understand God’s awesome abilities and powers. The problem is that us lowly, puny human beings try to create God in our image rather than the other way around!

But, let’s remember one thing…there is only one true God and we need to see Him as He is, which is omniscient (all-knowing), omnipotent (all-powerful) and omnipresent (being everywhere at the same time).

In answer to your question, God's omnipresence means that He is present everywhere all the time. Look at what the Bible says:

God said through Jeremiah, “Am I only a God far away? Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see him? Do I not fill heaven and earth?” (Jeremiah 23:23,24)

In Psalm 139 David wrote, “I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night— but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you.” (Psalm 139:7-12)

In Matthew 28:20 Jesus told us, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Bottom line, there is no place where God is not. God is not only present in all places but God is fully present in every place. I have to admit, this kind of thinking is wayyyy beyond my brain capacity! But we must try to understand that God is able to be "present everywhere" because He is Spirit. He is not confined to a three dimensional existence. God is infinite which means He has no beginning or end. God is not limited by human categories, human experience, or human reason.

But, and here’s the best part: knowing that God is omnipresent not only means that you don't need to feel alone, it means you don’t need to be afraid. No matter what you are facing, you face it with God at your side.

How does God know how many hairs we have on our head?

Excellent question!!! This is from Matthew 10:30 where Jesus is telling His followers about God’s great powers. I think that one of the biggest reasons we can’t understand God’s greatness is because we tend to compare Him to us. Remember, God is not created in our image…we are created in His image!

God is so much greater than us. He is all knowing, ever present, and all powerful. He is the Creator of the Earth and of the universe. He is eternal and has always been here and will always be here. He knows every thought you’ve thought, every thought you’re thinking right now and every thought you’ll think of in the future!

I have a funny saying…maybe you’ve heard me say it in T.R.A.C.K. before…and it goes like this: Has it ever occurred to you that nothing occurs to God? What I mean by that is that nothing ever catches God by surprise. Let’s say you are walking and you trip and fall. Do you think God says, “Wow! I didn’t see that coming.” No; he knew you were going to trip and knew you were going to fall before you did it!

We can’t even imagine God’s awesome abilities. Not only does He know every hair on your head, He also thinks of you more than the number of grains of sand on a beach! And that’s the true greatness of God…His unbelievable love for each and every one of us. His love for you is unconditional too. No matter what you’ve done, God will love you and always be there for you.

Isn’t God amazing??? I pray that, if you haven’t already, that you will accept God’s love and His gift of grace. It’s written in the Holy Bible (God’s love letter to us) in the book of Ephesians, Chapter 2, verse 8, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith --- and this is not from yourselves but it is a gift from God.”
